Job summary

Amazon in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced engineering leader to scale Flex offer and a multi‑service web platform. You will manage teams, own the roadmap, and drive machine learning into pricing architectures across partner teams, research science, and finance.

You will shape system design, mentor engineers, and partner with product management to deliver high‑impact, reliable services at scale for tens of thousands of drivers and millions of customers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Our software engineering managers are individuals who love listening to the customers, working as a team, and proactively taking the lead whenever necessary. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating machine learning into the offer pricing architecture. In this role, you will have an opportunity to oversee the design and development of various services. You will have influence on system design and help build a team culture around practices that are critical to a quality product. Your work would be cross-functional, involving partnering with other teams in Amazon, including partner-teams in Flex Offer Journey, fulfillment, research science, and finance teams to apply optimization and machine learning to solve real-world problems. You will own and deliver a hugely impactful system to Amazon customers and Flex drivers (tens of thousands of Flex drivers will deliver billions of Amazon packages to millions of Amazon customers). We are looking for someone with a go-getter attitude who is ready to own a problem and passionately drive successful implementation. We want someone who is a quick learner and ready to guide their team to adopt the latest techniques in computer science.

As the technical leader in the team, you will have influence over the long term strategic needs of the team, the short term tactical wins, and the tradeoffs between them. You will lead projects to improve quality and reduce operational load on the team, grow the careers of your team, and own the team roadmap. As a manager with a high technical bar, you will participate in people development and hiring, ensuring we are hiring the right type of people for the team's long term needs.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
