Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC seeks a Software Development Manager to lead the embedded firmware team for Avionics Endpoints, guiding SDEs in C++/Rust/Python. You will own satellite flight software strategy and develop a fault-dolerant framework spanning software and hardware for the Leo constellation.
The role emphasizes hiring, mentoring, and delivering low-latency, high-availability services, while coordinating with HW and other SW teams to meet ambitious mission goals.
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the team that owns and builds the embedded firmware for"Avionics Endpoints. These endpoints are used for three very mission critical functions - determine and change the spacecraft's attitude (orientation), generating power used by all the onboard systems on the satellite, and communication with ground stations on Earth.
As the SDM for this team, you will hire, develop, and lead a team of SDEs building the flight software for satellites. You will get to work closely with hardware and other software teams to deliver highly optimized, fault tolerant, mission critical software written in C++/Rust/Python . You will also own the strategy and execution of not only the software that runs on the satellite, but also lead the design and development of a framework to detect, inject and isolate faults on components that spans the entire satellite.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
As a Software Development Manager, you will play a crucial role in the development of services to support the automation of the Leo mission. You will work with a dynamic group of passionate engineers and collaborators across peer teams to identify automation needs, design novel solutions that meet customer requirements, and write software to automate key behaviors for our constellation's space and ground assets. You will be building low-latency, highly-scalable architecture to generate and execute our mission plans safely and effectively.
The Autopilot team builds software which supports the automated planning and execution of satellite activities, empowering humans to automate key tasks and take themselves out of the loop as we scale the Leo constellation. We own services that model spacecraft behaviors, predict future vehicle state, capture operational constraints on our system, and generate mission schedules that serve our customers while preserving vehicle health and safety.
