Job summary

Emerson is seeking an undergraduate intern to join a software development team working on DeltaV, a distributed process control system. You will tackle a summer project from our backlog, building features, services, and tools, with opportunities to explore AI/ML and cloud/containers as appropriate.

You will collaborate with engineers and mentors, participate in code reviews and agile ceremonies, and document your work for dissemination to the team at summer's end.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a college/university and returning to school after the internship.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Coursework or project experience in at least one programming language (C#, Java, Python, C/C++, or JavaScript).
• Legal authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.

Responsibilities

• Partner with software engineers and your mentor on a summer project that contributes to the applications, services, and tools behind DeltaV.
• Design, write, and test code for new features or improvements, from initial idea through working software.
• Explore how emerging technologies, potentially including AI/ML techniques, can be applied to real product and engineering problems.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging, and learn how professional teams keep software release-ready.
• Take part in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning and retrospectives, along with Hackathons, Tech Talks, and Communities of Practice.
• Document what you build so the team can maintain and extend your work after your internship ends, and present your results to the team at the end of the summer.
