Job summary

Charles Schwab in Southlake, TX is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to build and automate testing across the SDLC. Charles Schwab Asset Management is responsible for managing the Investment and Asset Management businesses of Schwab. The SAM Technology team is part of the Schwab Technology Services (STS) organization, and this opportunity is on the Alternatives Investments and Insurance & Annuities Team. Alternative Investments and Insurance & Annuities are a diverse group of software developers responsible for developing and supporting multiple enterprise class solutions in support of Schwab's various lines of business. We have an opening for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) position that will define and implement emerging and best practices in test automation, continuous testing, and test frameworks. The technology stack includes C#, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core, Angular, MS SQL/Oracle/Mongo, TypeScript, JavaScript, JQuery, WCF, and leverages Web API development with a strong focus on Object-Oriented application design and patterns and use of Shared Platforms/ Cloud Technology. We are looking for an individual that has a lot of curiosity and passion about technology, is driven to learn new things, and is always looking to improve process. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

We are looking for a versatile SDET whose role will be distributed across all phases of the SLDC - from early Inception solutioning through to final solution implementation and support. Responsibility and activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify automation test strategies and tools required to drive efficiencies.
  • Develop and implement Test Automation Frameworks for business-critical products.
  • Assist other automation engineers in maintaining the frameworks.
  • Participate in all aspects of automation testing including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices and developing new tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met.
  • Develop testing scenarios/cases to address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, boundary/negative testing, usability.
  • Drive continuous integration and deployment strategies leveraging tools like Github with a DevOps philosophy.
  • Applies knowledge of requirements management, such as requirement analysis, organization, and validation, within the designated business area to meet current and future business needs.
  • Applies implemented security controls and records to independently monitor and administer a secure IT environment for projects and programs within the designated business area.
  • Applies software development standards, processes, and methods independently to create, test, and verify software components, ensuring reliability and resolving operational problems and bugs, for projects and programs within the designated business area.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to implement effective software development practices, following established standards, processes, and methods to create, test, and verify software components, ensuring reliability and addressing operational issues and bugs.

Current working experience with Schwab systems and processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in building and maintaining test automation frameworks in a .NET environment utilizing Xunit, Nunit, Moq, Parasoft, etc. or working knowledge of related frameworks (Ruby testing/Groovy)
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Test Automation Frameworks
  • Strong programming background
  • Experience with open-source test automation tools
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Team player with excellent communication skills to partner technically with Application Architects, Development, QA/Testers and Business partners/Product Owners
  • Flexible driver of creative solutions who will thrive in a dynamic and emerging team
  • Experience working with resources in different geographical locations and offshore vendors
  • Experience in an Agile work environment
  • Understanding of BDD and TDD styles
  • A curiosity to understand and leverage new tools and technologies
  • Proficiency with testing web services using REST/SOAP tools (Postman, SOAPUi, Parasoft), performance testing, experience in cloud computing a plus
  • Experience with financial services is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree from 4-year accredited degree granting college or university is preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Selenium for web-based automation testing
  • Experience with Alternative Investments.

Current working experience with Schwab systems and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience with GitHub CI/CD.
  • Working experience with MS SQL and scheduling tools like Control-M.
