Job summary

Apple Inc. seeks a Software Development Engineering Manager for ASK Production Engineering in Cupertino to lead production ML platforms and AIOps-driven reliability initiatives. You will guide architecture, microservices, and multi-cloud operations across ML inference, tuning, and deployment at scale.

You will partner with teams across Apple to enable new experiences in AI, Search, Siri, and related platforms while mentoring senior engineers and ensuring high SLOs and security compliance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and running scalable services in public clouds.
• Senior-level engineering-management experience with Search, Voice-assistants, AIOps, ML, and cluster operations.
• Proven track record translating high-level requirements into pragmatic solutions and mobilizing cross-functional teams.
• Experience developing multi-cloud infrastructure worldwide with focus on ML-powered search and AIOps.
• Proficient with Java, Python and Go for automation or API integration.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver reliable AIOps frameworks across ML inference, fine-tuning, training and GPU workloads.
• Engineer microservices for ML-powered search to deliver worldwide Apple Intelligence experiences.
• Optimize software delivery for GPUs, TPUs, and accelerators from the ground up.
• Design and implement monitoring for hardware, network, telemetry, and service health to inform stakeholders.

Description

We are a production-infrastructure-facing distributed-systems team designing, building, and growing Apple's Machine Learning platform, enabling many of Apple's signature apps and experiences. Our work impacts over a billion users and is essential to the success of Apple's growth in AIML. Our team is growing, and you will have the unique opportunity to help us shape our culture and processes. As part of this role, you will:

• Collaborate to solve complex ML, AIOps, SRE and production-infrastructure problems with the opportunity to invent innovative solutions
• Evolve the design and architecture to support the continued growth of our AI and LLM-powered Search platform
• Develop the next generation of services that power Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud OS.
• Partner with various teams across Apple to develop features and functionality to enable new experiences in the Apple ecosystem

Responsibilities

• Deliver highly reliable AIOps frameworks across ML inference, fine-tuning,training and GPU cluster workloads, and productionize processes for high SLOs.
• Engineer microservices for ML-powered search to help deliver worldwide Apple Intelligence experiences in a modular fashion.
• Optimize software-delivery for GPUS, TPUs, ASICs from the ground up.
• Design and implement monitoring covering health of hardware platforms, networking fabric, workload telemetry,, microservice health, and resource utilization, giving the engineering, production, and finance teams a view into operational health and utilization.
• mprove the reliability of worldwide traffic and load balancing for Apple Intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building and running scalable services in public clouds
• Senior-level engineering-management experience with Search, Voice-assistants, AIOps, ML, and cluster operations
• Demonstrated track record in collecting high-level requirements, translating them into pragmatic solutions, and mobilizing cross-functional teams to achieve them
• Experience developing and operating multi-cloud infrastructure worldwide with focus on ML-powered search and AIOps.
• Proficient with various programming languages such as Java/Python/Go for automation or integration with multiple APIs.
• Ability to continuously learn new skills and technologies
• Solid communications skills, proven capability in working with cross-functional technical and business teams and varying levels of management in a professional manner.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep understanding of Search and Voice-assistant technologies, past, present, and future.
• Proven track record in managing high-performance teams of expert engineers
• Understanding of AIOps, especially for the global delivery of highly-reliable, highly-performant consumer-facing workloads.
• Proven mastery of load-balancing, observability, microservice architectures, security & cryptography, performance and reliability
• Experience in collecting data and optimizing services for different kinds of hardware
• Strong design, communication and cross-functional management skills
• Programming Languages: Go (golang), Python and Java. OS: Linux experienc

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $267,800 and $401,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
