CarGurus is seeking a Software Development Engineer Intern for the International Engineering team in Boston, MA. This 11‑week summer program runs June–August 2027, with a hybrid model and in-office work about 60% of the time.

Role overview

CarGurus is looking for a Software Development Engineer Intern for the International Engineering team .

As a Software Development Engineer Intern , you will join an 11-week Summer Internship Program designed to give you hands-on experience, expand your professional network, and build core industry skills. This full-time opportunity (40 hours per week) runs from June through August 2027. CarGurus operates on a hybrid working model, and candidates should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

What you’ll do

• Work with Java, MySQL, and front-end technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Remix) including microservices to build applications at CarGurus


• Work on a multi-functional team focused on CarGurus International presence (Canada & UK)


• Collaborate with data analysts, product managers, and other engineers


• Participate in whiteboard sessions and design conversations on engineering the best solution to the challenges at hand


• Test out new insights with novel and quick experiments


• Write clean, well-tested, and efficient code


• Collaborate with and enjoy mentorship by highly skilled engineers

What you’ll bring

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, with eligibility to complete a full-time internship.


• You are familiar with and have a foundational understanding of Java, algorithms, and data structures, as well as front-end technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript, React, HTML, CSS)


• You are eager to learn and expand your capabilities


• You are drawn to and thrive in a fast-paced environment that pushes code daily


• You are able to work independently, as well as in a team environment


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Bonus: Relational/non-relational database knowledge

The displayed range represents the expected hourly rate for this position.

The displayed range represents the expected annual base salary / On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this position. On-Target Earnings (OTE) is inclusive of base salary and on-target commission earnings, which applies exclusively to sales roles.

Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and other factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This annual base salary forms part of a comprehensive Total Rewards Package. In addition to benefits, this role may qualify for discretionary bonuses/incentives and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

Position Pay Range

$35—$35 USD
