Job summary

AAA Life Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test to strengthen QA automation. You will design, develop, and maintain automated tests with Playwright and TypeScript, ensuring stability and release readiness across our tech stack. You will partner with product, engineering, and QA to ensure quality and seamless CI/CD in GitLab.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, test infrastructure, and supporting shift-left practices in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years in test automation or SDET.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript for test automation.
• Hands-on experience building UI and API automated tests.
• Experience with CI/CD and integrating tests into pipelines.
• Experience with SQL or data validation across UI/API/backend.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and shift-left testing.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced SDET to help strengthen our QA automation capabilities and support our CI/CD efforts.

As a Software Development Engineer in Test at AAA Life, you will design, develop, and maintain automated tests and shared test infrastructure using Playwright and TypeScript to validate functionality, stability, and release readiness across our technology ecosystem. You'll be a hands-on engineer who partners closely with product owners, engineers, and QA analysts to ensure product quality and support seamless CI/CD using GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated UI and API tests using Playwright and TypeScript across application repositories and shared automation libraries.
• Build and maintain smoke, regression, and integration coverage using Playwright tagging and test selection patterns.
• Create and maintain automated tests that run reliably in GitLab CI/CD pipelines on merge requests and scheduled runs.
• Collaborate with product owners, engineers, and QA analysts to define testing strategies, clarify acceptance criteria, and support shift-left testing.
• Investigate test failures, distinguish test issues from product defects, and report clear, reproducible defects with evidence.
• Participate in code reviews for test code and follow team standards for readability, maintainability, and reliability.
• Help upskill manual QA teammates through pairing, review feedback, and practical guidance on Playwright and TypeScript automation patterns.
• Contribute to performance and load testing initiatives when needed.
• Advocate for testability, automation best practices, and continuous improvement aligned with DevOps and Agile delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 4+ years of experience in test automation or software development in test.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript for test automation.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining UI and API automated tests.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and integrating automated tests into pipelines.
• Strong understanding of testing strategies for UI, API, integration, and regression.
• Experience with SQL or data validation across UI, API, and backend layers.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and shift-left testing practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in the insurance or financial services industry.
• Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker and testing in lower environments.
• Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or Gatling.
• Knowledge of security testing practices.
• Experience mentoring, pairing with, or coaching teammates on test automation.
• Familiarity with contract testing or validating API behavior against OpenAPI or schema definitions.
