Job summary

CHAMP is seeking a motivated Software Development Engineer in Test I (SDET I) to join our QA team in Cleveland. You will work with QA analysts, senior SDETs, and engineers to implement automation-first testing practices, providing early feedback during development and automating regression suites before release.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years of hands-on SDET, QA Automation, or software development experience (internships and academic projects considered).
• Exposure to Cypress, Selenium, Playwright, or a similar automation framework (coursework, bootcamp, or professional experience).
• Basic understanding of API testing concepts, such as validating responses and status codes.
• Some exposure to end-to-end testing concepts and workflows.
• Basic knowledge of SQL, with the ability to write simple queries to check data.
• Willingness to learn how to analyze error logs (e.g., CloudWatch or similar tools) to help diagnose failures.
• Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn from feedback.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to test suites aligned with the Testing Pyramid, learning to balance unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage under guidance from senior team members.
• Communicate regularly with engineering and product teammates to understand requirements and surface questions or risks early.
• Write and maintain end-to-end test cases spanning API, UI, and database validation, following established patterns and best practices.
• Help identify and report flaky or unstable tests, escalating to senior SDETs for resolution as needed.
• Execute test plans and document results clearly for review by senior team members and stakeholders.
• Maintain up-to-date work tickets to keep priorities visible and the team aligned.
• Continuously build automation skills while keeping pace with new feature development.

Software Development Engineer in Test I (SDET I)

Your Impact

CHAMP is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Development Engineer in Test I (SDET I). In this role, you will work alongside our QA analysts, senior SDETs, and engineering team to learn and apply automation-first testing practices. We approach testing with a "left-shifting" automation first mindset, providing early feedback to our engineering team during development, while automating our regression suite prior to release. This individual should not be afraid to ask questions, learn quickly, and grow into greater ownership of the testing process from requirements analysis through to regression and release.

The ideal candidate should have solid problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail. This candidate should consider themselves curious and eager to learn new tools and technology. We value a self-starter mentality and someone who is eager to contribute ideas and grow their skills within a collaborative team.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 annually. This is a good faith estimate, and final compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and geographic location.
