Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Software Automation and Technology/Tooling (SWAT) team. We are a software team embedded in the Software org of the SEE (Systems Engineering and Evaluation) organization, building the automation frameworks, control systems, and infrastructure that enable scalable, reliable testing of next-generation robotic systems.
As an SDE on this team, you will design and implement software that directly interfaces with hardware — writing control logic for test fixtures, coordinating multi-device test sequences, collecting and processing sensor data, and building the tooling that hardware engineers rely on daily. You will work hands‑on with physical systems, bridging the gap between software and hardware to automate testing workflows at the component, subsystem, and full system level.
We're looking for someone with strong software development expertise who is energized by working close to hardware. Success in this role requires comfort with reading datasheets, comprehension of communication protocols (serial, CAN, EtherCAT, etc.), and writing software that controls and coordinates physical devices. Solid software fundamentals — clean architecture, testable code, and pragmatic design choices — are essential, as is passion for applying them in an environment where code moves motors, reads sensors, and validates real-world robotic systems.
On a typical day, you will work with hardware engineers and stakeholders to grasp test requirements, design control and coordination software, and drive execution on automation initiatives. You will:
