Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. seeks a Software Development Engineer II for the Centre for Quantum Computing.

The role focuses on building AI-native systems to accelerate quantum device research and fabrication, bridging software, ML, and experimental science for a tightly integrated development loop. You will work with researchers, process engineers, and hardware teams on data infrastructure, ML workflows, and autonomous agents to enable faster discovery and optimization in quantum

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience for new/existing systems.
• 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data lakes and pipelines unifying experimental, fabrication, and metrology data into a single platform.
• Develop AI-native workflows to automate the experiment-analysis-recommendation cycle.
• Build LLM-powered tools and autonomous agents for querying, visualizing, and reasoning over fabrication and experimental data.
• Partner with researchers, process engineers, and hardware teams to translate research needs into software.
• Implement ML-driven analysis systems such as defect detection, yield prediction, and process optimization.
• Design and build recommendation engines to surface actionable design-of-experiment tradeoffs.
• Own the reliability, scalability, and operational health of the systems, including monitoring and on-call support.
• Contribute to Device Lifecycle team direction through design docs, architecture reviews, and code reviews.

The Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is hiring a Software Development Engineer to build AI-native systems that accelerate quantum device research and fabrication. You will work at the intersection of software engineering, machine learning, and experimental science, building workflows and data infrastructure that connect scientists, hardware engineers, and AI models into a tightly integrated development loop.

Key job responsibilities

• Design and build data lakes and pipelines that unify experimental, fabrication, and metrology data from heterogeneous sources into a single, queryable platform for scientists and engineers
• Develop AI-native workflows that automate the experiment-analysis-recommendation cycle: ingest results, run ML models, surface insights, and propose next steps with minimal human intervention
• Build LLM-powered tools and autonomous agents that allow researchers to query, visualize, and reason over fabrication and experimental data using natural language
• Partner directly with research scientists, process engineers, and hardware teams to understand their problems deeply and translate research needs into working software
• Implement ML-driven analysis systems (e.g., automated defect detection, yield prediction, process optimization) that operate on live fabrication data
• Design and build recommendation engines that evaluate design-of-experiment tradeoffs (cost, time, performance) and surface actionable suggestions to research teams
• Own the reliability, scalability, and operational health of the systems you build, including monitoring, alerting, and on-call support
• Contribute to the technical direction of the Device Lifecycle team through design documents, architecture reviews, and code reviews

About the team

You will be joining the Device Lifecycle software development team within the AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Our team builds the software that enables scaling up quantum computing technologies, from fabrication execution systems to AI-powered research tools. We are a small, high-impact team where every engineer's work directly shapes the pace of quantum device development.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Knowledge of Machine Learning and LLM fundamentals, including transformer architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization techniques
• Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics or natural language processing
• Experience with research and investigation skills or equivalent
• Experience in semiconductor fabrication, foundry operations, or cleanroom environments

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
