Job description

As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon's unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers' businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon's real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.

Are you passionate about building scalable services that impact both internal teams and external customers? We're looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join our team where you'll take ownership of multiple services and products, driving technical innovation from concept to launch. You'll have the autonomy to single-handedly lead projects, launch new services, and reduce technical debt by deprecating legacy systems.

In this role, you'll tackle complex problems using strong problem-solving skills, dive deep into technical challenges, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-impact solutions. You'll work in an environment where engineers own their vision, propose innovative ideas, and execute with minimal direction. If you thrive on autonomy, enjoy prototyping new solutions, and want to make a meaningful impact on how customers experience our services, this is the opportunity for you.

Key job responsibilities
  • Design and deliver scalable software features across the full development lifecycle, including scoping, design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance of services for internal and external customers
  • Own and execute end-to-end projects independently, from working backwards from customer requirements through implementation and launch, while making effective priority tradeoffs between new feature development and operational work
  • Engage with stakeholders and collaborate with senior leadership to define product vision, prototype innovative solutions, and ensure alignment with long-term architectural strategy
  • Drive operational excellence by actively participating in code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to peers, and identifying root causes of operational issues to implement permanent fixes
  • Refactor and deprecate legacy services to reduce technical debt, ensuring software remains maintainable, well-documented, and can be easily extended by team members
A day in the life

Your day is filled with deep technical work and strategic collaboration. You'll spend significant time coding and reviewing pull requests, providing thoughtful feedback to teammates. You'll engage with stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure your solutions deliver real customer value. Working autonomously, you'll prototype new ideas to solve complex problems, then partner with senior engineers and managers to refine your approach. You'll balance feature development with operational improvements, always seeking opportunities to enhance system performance and reduce technical debt.

About the team

We're a team of talented engineers who thrive on ownership and taking initiative. Rather than being told what to build, you'll own the vision for services and drive innovation forward. We trust our engineers to identify opportunities, propose solutions, and execute with autonomy. Our culture values collaboration without micromanagement—you'll work alongside peers who are equally passionate about solving hard problems and delivering exceptional results.

Diverse Experiences

Amazon values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn't followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don't let it stop you from applying.
