Job description

Description

Amazon Ads is growing rapidly — expanding into Live events, Streaming TV, and agentic solutions for advertisers — and the Amazon Ads Demand Tech: Forecasting Insights and Guidance team needs a Software Development Engineer to help build the systems behind it all. In this role you will design and deliver campaign forecasting and recommendation services that process petabyte-scale data, power real-time advertiser decisions, and directly influence how advertising budgets are planned and optimized.

You will write production code in Java, Scala, Python, and TypeScript, build and operate large-scale data pipelines and indexing infrastructure on AWS, and collaborate with applied scientists to turn forecasting models into reliable, performant services. A major focus ahead is scaling the platform for high-throughput agentic workloads and applying AI to accelerate software upgrades and reduce operational recovery times. If you enjoy working across the full software lifecycle and want your work to have a measurable impact on a business growing at 26% year over year, this is a compelling time to join.

Key job responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable APIs and microservices that serve real-time forecasting and recommendation results to advertising customers, with a near-term focus on scaling throughput for agentic workloads

  • Build and maintain backend data pipelines on EMR, Spark, and S3 that process petabyte-scale datasets, generate search indexes, and keep daily data fresh and accurate

  • Collaborate with applied scientists and product teams to translate time-series forecasting models and supply-demand algorithms into production-ready, well-tested systems

  • Apply AI-driven approaches to accelerate platform upgrades, reduce tech debt, and lower mean time to resolution for operational issues

  • Mentor engineers on your team through code reviews and design discussions, contribute to technical roadmaps, and document systems so they can be maintained and extended by others

A day in the life

Your time splits between proactive, roadmap-driven feature work and hands-on operational responsibilities. In a typical week you might spend mornings writing and reviewing code — building a new forecasting endpoint or tuning a Spark indexing job — then shift to monitoring deployment pipelines, investigating a data-quality anomaly, or reviewing dashboards for latency and forecast accuracy. You will regularly join design reviews and cross-team syncs with product, UX, and science partners. The role operates with significant autonomy: you own your features end to end, but you are never working in isolation — peer reviews, on-call collaboration, and mentoring newer engineers are woven into the rhythm of the week.

About the team

Amazon Ads Demand Tech: Forecasting Insights and Guidance builds customer-facing forecasting and recommendation products that guide self-service advertising customers throughout their campaign lifecycle. Looking ahead, we are investing in scaling our platform for high-throughput agentic requests, using AI to accelerate upgrades across our software stack, and reducing operational recovery times. We are an inclusive group of engineers, scientists, and product managers who value clear documentation, shared on-call ownership, and continuous improvement of our platform.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 3+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience

  • 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 3+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience

  • 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
