Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle seeks a Software Development Engineer II to lead the Oncoscape platform, a production-grade system for cancer research. You will build intuitive interfaces, design scalable backend services, and develop analysis for high-dimensional data with researchers and clinicians.

You will own full-stack features from 0 to 1, including AWS deployments, data pipelines, and cross-platform integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 3-6 years of directly related experience.
• 3+ years of experience building and shipping full-stack applications from zero to production, using React, TypeScript, and AWS.
• 3+ years designing and delivering scalable, cloud-based systems.
• Proven ability to own and architect end-to-end, data-intensive systems, making sound tradeoffs across frontend, backend, and data processing layers.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the platform end-to-end: drive design, architecture, and iteration of a production system supporting clinical and genomic research workflows.
• Build high-performance full-stack applications: develop intuitive, scalable interfaces and services using React and TypeScript, enabling exploration of complex, high-dimensional datasets.
• Architect data-intensive systems: design secure, scalable APIs and data models for clinical and genomic data using AWS, balancing performance across client and server layers.
• Bridge research and product: translate ambiguous scientific needs into well-defined product features, analytical tools, and user workflows.

Fred Hutch Cancer Center is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to drive the Oncoscape platform, a production-grade system for cancer research.

You will build intuitive user interfaces, design scalable backend systems, and develop analytical methods for high-dimensional data - all while collaborating closely with researchers and clinicians to turn complex scientific questions into robust software and actionable insights. In this role, you will deliver high-impact software and directly contribute to computational oncology research, shaping the platform and the discoveries it enables.

This role involves building and owning full stack features from 0 to 1. The team has an evolving ecosystem including data processing pipelines, one-click deployments into AWS environments for clients, and a growing suite of integrations into various platforms.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 3-6 years of directly related experience.
• 3+ years of experience building and shipping full-stack applications from zero to production, using React, TypeScript, and AWS.
• 3+ years designing and delivering scalable, cloud-based systems.
• Proven ability to own and architect end-to-end, data-intensive systems, making sound tradeoffs across frontend, backend, and data processing layers.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, contributing to both technical architecture and product strategy.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, translating complex scientific requirements into intuitive, production-grade software.
• Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of relational databases and T-SQL.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts, data structures and algorithms.
• Understanding of specific programming languages.
• Other department-determined skills or experience may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with AWS Marketplace and deploying reproducible cloud applications across multiple tenants.
• Demonstrated expertise in high-dimensional data analysis, including dimensionality reduction techniques (e.g., UMAP, PaCMAP, t-SNE) in oncology or genomics contexts.
• Familiarity with modern genomics workflows and their application to precision oncology and clinical decision-making.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $99,486 to $157,227, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
