Job description

Software Development Engineer, Campaign Measurement & Optimization

Campaign Measurement & Optimization (CMO) org’s mission is to maximize global marketing ROI through actionable measurement results and insights for global marketing investment decisions. Our long-term objective is to measure the incremental impact of all Amazon’s marketing investments on consumer perceptions, actions, and sales. This requires measuring Amazon’s marketing comparably and consistently across channels, business teams, and countries using a comprehensive approach that integrates all Paid, Owned, and Earned marketing activity. As the experts on marketing performance, we will lead the Amazon worldwide marketing community by providing critical global insights that can power marketing best practices and tenets globally.

Are you passionate about Deep Learning, Causal Inference, and Big Data Systems? Interested in building new state-of-the-art measurement products at scale? Be part of a team of industry-leading experts operating one of the most challenging big data and deep learning stacks at Amazon. Amazon leverages its highly unique data and applies the latest deep learning and big data technologies to revolutionize how marketers optimize their advertising spend. Our campaign measurement and reporting systems process billions of events in near real-time using these technologies.

You'll confront some of the hardest problems in advertising, such as measuring ad incrementality, providing estimated counterfactuals, and predicting the success of advertising strategies for omni-channel campaign measurement. Working with a cross-functional team—including product managers, business development managers, engineers, ML scientists, research scientists, and economists—you will develop automated, scalable software solutions to enable state-of-the-art causal learning, deep learning, and predictive techniques. These solutions empower marketers to understand campaign performance and optimize their spending.

Key job responsibilities
  • Experience with full software development lifecycle and MLOps solutions from inception to production.
  • Deliver independently on large-scale, complex problems with ambiguity.
  • Own the technical solutions for ingesting, standardizing, and scaling marketing data from various sources to feed MLOps systems.
  • Formalize assumptions about system operations, define statistical outliers, and develop methods to identify and analyze outliers for potential actions.
  • Write code in languages like Scala, Java, or Python. Support and improve existing systems.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers to develop robust systems.
A day in the life

Lead the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of measurement systems at scale that estimate the incremental impact of Amazon’s cross-channel marketing. Collaborate within your team and across teams to design, build, and scale new solutions, understanding limitations and scoping effective solutions.

About the team

CMO (Campaign Measurement and Optimization) owns a challenging domain within Customer Behavior Analytics (CBA). As marketing performance experts, we aim to lead the global marketing community with insights that inform best practices worldwide.

Minimum qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
  • 1+ years of experience in system design or architecture, including patterns, reliability, and scalability.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Scala, or Python.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, including standards, architecture, reviews, source control, deployment, testing, and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
