Job description

Software Development Engineer, Amazon Ads Sales Tech

Job ID: 3017696 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Ads is one of Amazon's fastest-growing areas!

The team is looking for a motivated Software Development Engineer (SDE) with a proven track record of building full stack applications and services at scale. You’ll be responsible for owning, designing and delivering highly scalable systems. We’re a fast-growing team with lots of opportunities for advancement. No chance of getting bored!

A successful engineer in this role is:
* Highly analytical: You solve problems in innovative ways that help us achieve our success metrics. You focus on driving processes, tools, and statistical methods which support rational decision-making.
* Team obsessed: You help grow your team members to achieve great results. You foster a creative atmosphere letting engineers innovate, while holding them accountable for making smart decisions and delivering results.
* You’re ambitious, yet humble: You recognize that there’s always opportunity for improvement and use introspection and feedback from teammates and peers to raise the bar.
* Engaged by ambiguity: You're able to explore new problem spaces with unique constraints and thus non-obvious solutions; you’re quick to identify any gaps with a goal of delivering value to our customers.

You will:
* Own technical vision and direction: You identify problems and develop solutions; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running.
* Build and grow your team: You'll be a key contributor on an engineering team that delivers results. You'll be an example of Amazon's leadership principles and work to grow more leaders within your group.
* Collaborate on product direction: You’ll build and maintain strong relationships between engineering and partner disciplines (e.g. Product, User Experience) to ensure that we're focused on delivering the right product(s) for our customers.

Key job responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power sales productivity tools
* Build robust integrations with internal systems across the Ads ecosystem
* Implement complex business logic for sales workflows, including deal management, incentives calculation, and account prioritization
* Drive technical improvements in system architecture, performance, and reliability
* Write high-quality, well-tested code following engineering best practices
* Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
* Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while maintaining system stability
* Collaborate with Product Managers and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
* Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team
* Monitor and optimize system performance, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks
* Support and mentor junior engineers in their technical growth
* Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design to deployment and maintenance

A day in the life
* Participating in daily stand-ups with your cross-functional team to align on priorities and unblock dependencies
* Designing and implementing scalable microservices that power our sales tools, using modern tech stack and best practices
* Collaborating with Product Managers to refine technical requirements and propose solutions for new features
* Writing and reviewing code that integrates with various Ads ecosystem APIs
* Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance on architecture decisions
* Participating in technical design discussions to solve complex problems around data consistency, performance, and scale
* Reviewing and addressing any urgent operational issues
