The Amazon Fulfillment Technology (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. We are responsible for scalable and innovative solutions to enable the fulfillment of millions of items every day across the globe. Our team owns the charter to make the AFT WMS more accessible and flexible for emerging markets and businesses. We are initiating several key projects in our external fulfillment sector and are seeking a Software Development Engineer eager to build and drive innovative, scalable systems that manage our external fulfillment network. This role involves architectural challenges, including making large volumes of constantly changing data accessible to various applications used by diverse internal and external customers and business cases, as well as developing innovative solutions for managing data quality and complex event processing.

We are creating new products in this space with scaling requirements to support tens of millions of business operations daily across thousands of fulfillment centers (FCs). We are looking for passionate SDEs to build large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software solutions. You will be empowered to think big, invent, and simplify for our stakeholders and customers, finding elegant solutions to challenging problems. You will influence other engineers and technical partners in the team to develop critical, multi-region business features.

Key job responsibilities

1. Design and develop innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
2. Mentor junior engineers, ensuring proper unit test coverage, code documentation, software structure, and support.
3. Own and deliver end-to-end key initiatives, maintaining effective communication with management and stakeholders.
4. Identify, evaluate, and suggest mitigation strategies for risks during design.
5. Contribute to system design, process, and development standards documentation.
6. Deliver high-quality code on time as part of a cross-functional team.
7. Participate in team discussions on system component design, improvement, and integration.
8. Design and develop high-performance, test-driven code.
9. Maintain and enhance existing code base and new components; support deployment and QA processes.

AFT's External Fulfillment team develops flexible, scalable solutions tailored for Amazon's emerging markets and businesses.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
• 2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, including reliability and scaling
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build, testing, and operations
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
