Job summary

TELUS Digital is seeking an onsite Egocentric Data Collection Contributor in Pittsburgh, PA to wear a PICO head-mounted device and record natural hand activities in home-like settings for AI training. Schedule is Mon-Fri 9:00 am–5:00 pm with weekend flexibility; full-time, temporary, ASAP start. Rate: $18.00/hour.

Responsibilities include operating the headset, ensuring hands remain in frame, and maintaining equipment and lighting for high-quality footage. Prior experience with VR/AR is helpful.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older.
• Based in the commutable distance in Pittsburgh, PA.
• Able to comfortably wear an 8–10 lb head/body pack for up to 8 hours.
• Comfortable operating VR/AR headsets without adverse effects (e.g., no motion sickness).
• Eye-hand coordination & manual dexterity: perform everyday object manipulation smoothly, precisely, and repeatedly.
• Hand size within the 25th–75th percentile (glove fit).
• Basic technology comfort: powering headset, Wi‑Fi/mobile hotspot, Bluetooth pairing, and starting/stopping a recording.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to follow structured instructions precisely.

• Perform assigned everyday tasks naturally while keeping hands and objects in view.
• Follow the task guidelines, scene setup, and moderator instructions for each session.
• Record short, self-contained task clips (Target average ~1 minute).
• Keep both hands visible and in frame for the large majority of every clip.
• Handle quick device checks between takes (recording, charging, connection).
• Maintain cleanliness and care of shared equipment; basic troubleshooting as needed.
• Ensure first-person POV with a clear, stable view of hands and manipulated objects.
• Record one task as one continuous clip.
• Ensure footage meets the program's quality bar with a target >90% acceptance rate.

Position Description:

As an onsite Egocentric Data Collection Contributor, you will wear a PICO head-mounted device and perform natural, everyday hand activities in prepared, home-like settings so that first-person video of your hands and the objects you handle can be captured. This footage helps train robotics and embodied-AI systems to understand how people use their hands. There is no acting and no script — the goal is authentic, clean, well-framed activity.

Main Responsibilities:

• Wear a head-mounted capture device (PICO 4 Ultra) for the duration of scheduled recording sessions


• Perform assigned everyday tasks naturally while keeping your hands and the objects you handle clearly in view


• Follow the task guidelines, scene setup, and moderator instructions for each session


• Record short, self-contained task clips (Target average ~1 minute)


• Keep both hands visible and in frame for the large majority of every clip


• Handle quick device checks between takes (confirming the headset is recording, charged, and connected)


• Maintain the cleanliness and care of shared equipment (Sanitation supplies provided)
  Basic troubleshooting of the equipment - as needed


• Ensure first-person (POV) perspective with a clear, stable view of the hands and manipulated objects


• Maintain natural, uninterrupted movement; avoid sudden or jerky head motions


• Ensure good, even lighting in the work area


• Record one task as one continuous clip


• Ensure footage meets the program's quality bar with a target >90% acceptance rate

Required Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older

• Basic technology comfort: Able to follow simple device steps such as powering on the headset, connecting it to Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot, pairing over Bluetooth, and starting/stopping a recording with light guidance


• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to follow structured instructions precisely

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in data collection, QA, or task-based gig work


• Experience with consumer VR/AR headsets or action cameras


• Comfortable working to a schedule in a supervised, repetitive-task environment
