Job summary

AMEWAS is seeking a Software Developer (WSCE)-Junior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $87,100.00 - $115,800.00 and is commensurate with experience.

This on-site role requires working in California, Maryland, or Patuxent River, Maryland. The position involves developing software for an advanced synthetic training environment, integrating it with flight simulators, and supporting demonstrations and customer training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience with software development using C/C++, CMake and/or scripting languages (Bash, Python 3).
  • Familiarity with scaled agile software development tools and environments (Git, Jira).
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance as required by contract.

Responsibilities

  • Develops software for an advanced synthetic training environment.
  • Integrates software into flight simulators to support pilot training.
  • Supports software development, integration, training and demonstrations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and OO design.
  • Works within a DevOps environment with automated builds and multi-OS deployment.
  • Evaluates and reviews C/C++ code; writes C/C++ programs.

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer (WSCE)-Junior to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $87,100.00 - $115,800.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Simulation Applications and Architecture (SAA) Branch develops multiple modeling and simulation (M&S) tools in support of warfighter training; test and evaluation (T&E); data analysis; live, virtual, and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and its international partners. The tools include the Global Reusable Interface Domain (GRID), the Weapons Server Common Environment (WSCE), the Simulation Control Executive (SCE), and the Architecture Management Integration Environment (AMIE). The SAA Branch designs, develops, documents, and deploys these products and tools. The Battlespace Division delivers these products as part of an integrated suite of tools called the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB); the battlespace for JSE.

A typical day as a Software Developer (WSCE)-Junior may include:
  • Develops software for an advanced synthetic training environment
  • Integrates software into flight simulators to support pilot training against potential threats
  • Supports software development, software integration, customer training and demonstrations
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object-oriented software design
  • Works within existing DevOps environment (automated builds, testing, deployment of software on multiple OS platforms, etc.)
  • Evaluates and reviews C and C++ language code
  • Programs using C and C++ language code
  • Develops software requiring parallel processing, threading and inter-process communication
  • Develops software to simulate complex environments or platforms in real-time
  • Collaborates with team members to design future enhancements
  • Integrates complex third-party software models of weapons into a common product used for fleet training and test
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering: Degrees in Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Software Systems, Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering may qualify
  • Degree obtained from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Experience with software development using C/C++, CMake and/or scripting languages (Bash, Python 3 or similar platforms)
  • Familiarity with scaled agile software development tools and environments (Git, Jira or similar platforms)
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/A
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working in a cross-platform development environment (Windows, Linux or similar platforms)
  • Experience with modeling and simulation
  • Experience with military weapons systems or military air platforms
  • Experience in the military test or training
  • Experience with networking in C++

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.
