If you're ready to grow your skills, be challenged by meaningful work, and contribute to something bigger…this is where you belong.

Come do work that matters. Join AMEWAS.

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer and Integrator (JSE)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $115,800.00 – $165,600.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on‑site support is required.

About the location:

Patuxent River, MD, is located in the California‑Lexington Park area.

Position Background:

The Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Patuxent River is the enterprise‑wide center of excellence for developing the DoD’s premier modern warfare training and operational test bed system. JSE is a world‑class simulation experience for the warfighter. The simulation requires multiple software products to be integrated and work seamlessly together to provide the required warfighter need. The JSE software structure has products grouped into two groups: the first being the JSE Technical Baseline (JTB) which creates the high‑fidelity environment of the simulation, and the second group, the JSE Platform Packages (JPP), which allows platform simulations to integrate into the simulation environment. As an Integrator, you will work amongst a team to integrate new versions of JSE software products. Once integrated, you will conduct integration testing on the newly integrated version and provide test results that will determine if the baseline of JSE software is ready to move to the next level of testing. This role requires serving as the integration team’s subject‑matter expert for Lua. In JSE, Lua is used with all products, allowing them to be started and maintained by the Simulation Control Executive (SCE) while in operation. When issues arise with product Lua code or with Lua integration, you will need to understand the issue, define it clearly, and provide concise feedback to product teams. You will also be the subject‑matter expert for JSE DevOps. While JSE has a DevOps team, this position will work closely with that team and have a full understanding of JSE’s DevOps processes to troubleshoot deployment or Ansible issues, characterize deployment needs, and brief the integration team on changes.

A typical day as a Software Developer and Integrator (JSE)-Journeyman may include:
  • Integrates software releases into JSE development cycles and DevOps project layouts
  • Understands dependencies of JSE products and their relationships to other products
  • Troubleshoots and characterizes issues for resolution by development teams
  • Conducts integration test events regularly and reports all findings to multiple teams
  • Creates/updates integration test documentation
  • Performs hotfix software changes/builds required to fix critical issues
  • Conducts merges of GitLab work to baseline development trunks
  • Works in a dynamic environment at the edge of advanced software development to support frontline warfighters
  • Exhibits flexibility, outlook and understanding of impact
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace, Computers, Software Systems or Electrical, Electronic Engineering OR Associate’s Degree with 4 years of additional work experience (7 years total) OR HS Diploma/Equivalent with 9 years of additional work experience (9 years total)
  • Degree obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • 3 years of experience coding C++
  • Experience coding with Lua
  • Experience developing with both Windows and Linux
  • Experience with Git/GitLab
  • Experience with troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining and improving existing software code
  • The ability to work in a very flexible and energetic‑paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • AMEWAS willing to obtain and process full clearance—the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Ansible
  • Experience with networking
  • Knowledge of standard programming algorithms, design patterns and object‑oriented software design
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with integration testing
  • Experience using Scaled Agile (SAFe) development methodologies
