JD Power is seeking a Software Developer IV for a remote Canada-based role. You will drive all phases of software development, collaborating with business stakeholders and the team to design, implement, test, and release software with AI-assisted approaches.

You will mentor peers, enforce quality standards, and ensure secure, maintainable code across the SDLC. The role requires 10+ years of full-stack experience, strong TypeScript/React or Angular skills, and deep API/database know-how.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of full-stack development with frontend and backend.
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Node.js, REST API design, and SQL-based querying.
• Advanced proficiency in either Angular or React, with working knowledge of the other.
• Experience writing incremental unit tests and applying coding best practices.
• Experience with relational and non-relational database design and development.
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and able to judge when to accept, edit, or reject generated output.

Job Title: Software Developer IV

About the Role:

The Software Developer IV contributes to all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle through the analysis, design, implementation, verification, and maintenance of software solutions. This role works closely with Business Unit stakeholders to review requirements, validate designs, create work estimates, develop software, and verify product releases. The Software Developer IV also works in close collaboration with the Software Development Team Lead to define and implement best practices across all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, including the effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

In this role, you will:

• Develop a detailed technical understanding of client needs and project requirements
• Collaborate with technical stakeholders to create detailed work package estimates
• Create, prioritize, assign, and monitor all software development tasks for assigned projects
• Lead and coordinate day-to-day execution for Engineering team members
• Be the primary point of contact for project team status updates
• Design and code software applications from business and technical specifications, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality, security, and adherence to team standards
• Develop and execute unit, component, and integration tests to verify requirements are met, using AI assistance to expand coverage and identify edge cases that manual authoring might miss
• Perform code reviews — including review of AI-generated code — to ensure quality, proactively identify defects, catch hallucinated APIs or insecure patterns, and recommend improvements
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues for assigned projects, using AI tools as a research and debugging accelerator while validating outputs against authoritative sources
• Contribute to the creation of technical and end-user product documentation, using AI tools to draft and iterate efficiently from source code, requirements, and design artifacts
• Apply secure coding practices and consider production observability, debuggability, and maintainability in all work

Required Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years of full-stack software development with both frontend and backend experience
• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Node.js, REST API design, and SQL-based database querying
• Advanced proficiency in either Angular or React, with working knowledge of the other
• Experience writing incremental unit tests and applying coding best practices
• Experience with relational and non-relational database design and development
• Experience with Git and Git-based CI/CD pipelines
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and able to judge when to accept, edit, or reject generated output
• Skilled at providing effective context — codebase conventions, requirements, constraints — to produce production-quality results
• Experience using AI to accelerate test authoring, documentation, and routine refactoring
• Aware of AI tool limitations: hallucinated APIs, outdated patterns, security pitfalls in generated code, and the need for human verification before merge
• Self-directed and detail-oriented, able to take ownership of work from requirements through release
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, comfortable working across technical and business stakeholders
• Supports the growth of other team members through peer reviews, pairing, and mentorship

Preferred Qualifications:

• ElasticSearch or other non-relational query experience
• End-to-end test automation experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks
• Cloud platform experience (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP also valuable), including Redshift or comparable data warehouse experience
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and common vulnerability classes (OWASP Top 10)
• Experience building software in Agentic fashion

Compensation and Benefits

This position has a starting salary range of $100,000 - $120,000 CAD per year. The range represents what we reasonably and in good faith expect to pay for the role at the time of posting. An employee’s pay within the range is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, education, qualifications, experience, performance, business or organizational needs, and geographic location.
