Job summary

Berkley Technology Services in Urbandale, IA is seeking a Software Developer (.net) Intern to support a .net based underwriting platform across the full stack, gaining hands-on experience from requirements to deployment.

You'll work with .NET, Angular, C++, SQL queries and AI, participate in agile development, triage issues, assist with releases, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver value.

Qualifications

• Two years of college CS coursework or equivalent.
• OO programming experience; .NET preferred; Angular/C++ also considered.
• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
• Customer service focus and sense of urgency.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Prior co-op/internship is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support enhancement requests for underwriting platform.
• Participate in full software development lifecycle from design to deployment.

Responsibilities

As a Software Developer (.net) Intern at Berkley Technology Services (BTS), you’ll support the continued evolution of a .net based policy administration platform. This enterprise platform is leveraged by multiple W.R. Berkley Corporation (WRB) member companies to enable underwriters to perform clearance, along with issuing quotes, binders and policies for various lines of insurance. On our team, you won’t be limited to the front-end or back-end; your role offers exposure to the full stack, helping you connect the requests we receive to the application features we build. With us, you’ll get to see the impact of your work on the business, every day. Key functions will include but are not limited to:

• Support and execute product enhancement requests for our proprietary underwriting platform
• Gain hands-on experience across the software development cycle, from requirements gathering to software design, development, testing, code review, deployment, and support
• Take a hands-on role in various tasks whereby you will gain exposure to object-oriented programming languages; .NET, Angular, C++, SQL queries and AI. Learn how all of these fit together to create a platform.
• Triage and troubleshoot production support issues, working with end-users to resolve issues to their satisfaction
• Assist with activities like software release planning and see your code and changes migrate through the process
• Take an active role in supporting software development projects in an agile setting, where you’ll learn additional ways that agile can be implemented/utilized by software development teams

Qualifications

• At least two years of college or university coursework completed in a Computer Science discipline; MIS programs with an emphasis on programming are also applicable
• Experience with object-oriented programming languages; .NET (preferred), Angular, C++ will also be considered. Some experience writing SQL queries preferred and AI skills are a plus
• Superior problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong customer service focus and sense of urgency
• Ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies and systems
• Prior related co-op, internship, and/or on or off-campus technical experience preferred but not required
