Job description

The Analytical Solutions Division (ASD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc., www.ara.com, is seeking a full-time Software Developer 1 to support a customer on-site in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Software Developers are responsible for coding, developing software products, collaborating with team members to implement features, fix bugs, conduct testing, vulnerability scanning, documentation, and ensuring the product meets customer quality standards. This position emphasizes implementing Software Change Requests as specified by the customer.

ASD Software Developers in Aberdeen Proving Ground focus on delivering excellent customer experiences by working directly with customers, external teams, and other ARA programs to cross-integrate capabilities. This position is contingent upon certain conditions.

What you’ll do as a Software Developer 1:
  1. Provide engineering and analysis support related to software modeling codes and tools
  2. Analyze software code, risks, and reliability
  3. Support testing, evaluation, and demonstrations in unclassified and classified environments
  4. Collaborate with internal customers and analysts to develop software solutions
  5. Create and support DevOps tools, CI/CD practices, and documentation
  6. Provide support and technical assistance to end users
  7. Present solution designs for stakeholder input and approval
  8. Ensure system design balances functionality, quality, and security compliance
  9. Deploy software on secure or standalone networks per DoD requirements
  10. Learn new skills to enhance software performance
Requirements for Software Developer 1:
  • Possess an Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Have 8-10 years of DoD Software Development Experience OR a bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering plus 2+ years of DoD development experience
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Proficiency with C, C++, Java, Fortran, Tcl/Tk, Python, UNIX shell scripting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with Java and C++ development using Git, CMake, GNU compilers, and debugging tools
  • Experience in distributed and multi-threaded processing
  • Experience with geometric solid modeling and ray-tracing
  • Experience with computer simulations
  • Ability to generate CMake build scripts
  • Knowledge of software development models like Waterfall and DevSecOps
  • Understanding of risk management processes
  • Strong time management and communication skills
  • Innovative and team-oriented attitude
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with user interface development using Apache products
  • Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guides and DevSecOps
