Job summary

NBCI Fast Fingerprints in Ohio is seeking an experienced software developer to support and thoughtfully modernize a portfolio of business‑critical applications used in fingerprinting and background‑check operations. Our environment includes desktop and server apps, web apps, APIs, databases, and integrations with customers, vendors, payment providers, and government agencies.

Qualifications

  • We are seeking substantial software development experience (3+ years) in complex environments.
  • Strong hands-on C# and .NET experience.
  • Solid SQL Server expertise including design, stored procedures, and tuning.
  • Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs and distributed components.
  • Proven ability to maintain production systems not built by you.
  • Ability to diagnose issues across app, DB, integration, and infra layers.
  • Ability to explain technical choices to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Experience with testing, deployment, and post-deployment validation.
  • Experience with ASP.NET Core, Angular, and related tech is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn architecture, business processes, dependencies, and purpose of an established application portfolio.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues across code, services, APIs, DBs, and integrations.
  • Design, build, test, and maintain C#/.NET apps, web apps, RESTful APIs, SQL Server components, and Windows desktop software.
  • Modernize systems in small, practical steps to improve security, reliability, and performance.
  • Use sound judgment to decide on repair, refactor, or replacement of code.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Create and execute test, deployment, verification, and rollback plans for production changes.
  • Collaborate with management, developers, ops, end users, customers, vendors, and government partners.
  • Document systems, decisions, procedures, and lessons learned for knowledge sharing.
  • Incorporate security, privacy, and compliance into daily development.
  • Mentor and learn from other developers through collaborative problem solving.

Job description

Requirements

Must have:
  • We are looking for someone with substantial professional software development experience, typically three or more years, or equivalent progression in complex production environments.
  • We need strong hands‑on experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
  • We require solid expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, including relational design, stored procedures, query analysis, and performance tuning.
  • We expect experience building, supporting, or integrating RESTful APIs and distributed application components.
  • We want demonstrated success learning and maintaining an existing production system that was not originally built by you.
  • We need proven ability to diagnose issues that span application, database, integration, or infrastructure layers.
  • We require the ability to explain technical choices, risks, and tradeoffs to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • We expect evidence of carrying work through testing, deployment, and post‑deployment validation.
  • Preferred technical experience includes C# on both .NET Framework and modern .NET, ASP.NET Core, ASP.NET Web API, RESTful services, Angular, ASP.NET Razor Pages, Windows Forms, Windows Services, SQL Server optimization, third‑party and machine‑to‑machine integrations, automated testing, source control, build pipelines, deployment pipelines, and rollback planning.
  • Additional value comes from experience in regulated or security‑sensitive environments such as criminal justice, financial, or healthcare, along with familiarity in secure development practices, encryption, identity and access control, logging, vulnerability remediation, and working with vendors or government technical teams.

  • You will incorporate security, privacy, and compliance requirements into everyday design and development decisions.
  • You will mentor and learn from other developers through collaborative problem‑solving.
