Job summary

Accenture Federal Services is seeking a Software Engineer to join a cross‑functional Agile team supporting the Health Insurance Oversight System (HIOS). The role requires strong Java/Spring backend, React or Angular frontend, PostgreSQL data access, and experience in AWS, CI/CD with Jenkins and GitHub.

You will design, develop, test, and maintain secure, production‑quality software, analyze issues, and help modernize legacy components without disrupting operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least four years of software development experience.
  • Experience maintaining legacy production systems on a federal program, including working within formal security, release, change-control, and operational-support processes.
  • Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain secure, production-quality software.
  • Develop and support Java/Spring backend services, APIs, business logic, database integrations, and React- or Angular-based user interfaces.
  • Analyze existing code and system behavior to diagnose complex application, integration, data, and performance issues.
  • Support legacy production applications while contributing to incremental modernization and maintainability improvements.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, database objects, and data‑access components using PostgreSQL.
  • Participate in code reviews, automated testing, defect resolution, release preparation, deployment validation, and production support.
  • Work within AWS‑hosted environments and established continuous integration and continuous delivery processes using Jenkins and GitHub.

The Software Engineer will serve as an experienced full‑stack developer supporting the ongoing operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the CMS Health Insurance Oversight System (HIOS). This individual should be comfortable working across legacy and modern application components in a complex federal production environment. The role requires strong Java and Spring experience, proficiency with both React and Angular front‑end technologies, and experience developing data‑driven applications using PostgreSQL. The developer will troubleshoot production issues, resolve defects, implement approved enhancements, address technical debt, and help modernize legacy components without disrupting ongoing operations. The Software Engineer will work as part of a cross‑functional Agile team and is expected to:

  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain secure, production-quality software.
  • Develop and support Java/Spring backend services, APIs, business logic, database integrations, and React- or Angular-based user interfaces.

The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below. Compensation for roles at Accenture Federal Services varies depending on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. The pay range for the states of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia is: $97,500 - $115,200 USD
