Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Developer to support a premier defense research organization. You will develop AI-enabled software, integrate AI components into prototypes, and optimize processing pipelines with heterogeneous hardware for near real-time performance.

The role emphasizes edge AI, AI model distillation, and scalable software architecture, with a requirement for an active Secret clearance and US citizenship. Remote work is supported.

About the Role:

Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Developer to support one of the nation’s premier defense research organizations. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in both software development and the development of AI algorithms and technologies. This role focuses on creating novel techniques and approaches for discriminative and generative AI tasks, rather than simply leveraging existing open-source AI models to accelerate software development.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be experienced in both software development and the development of AI systems. The job entails the integration of AI software components into prototypes and integrated systems, many of which have realtime or near-realtime processing requirements. This necessitates a detailed understanding of processing speeds in a data pipeline, control of latencies and management of overflow and underflow, and the ability to creatively leverage heterogeneous processing options across different types of hardware to accelerate computations. Familiarity with AI model distillation techniques, or other methods for edge AI processing, would be very helpful. On the software development side of the work, the successful candidate will be able to leverage any of the available AI frameworks, be skilled in containerization, package management, etc. and ideally have full stack dev experience.

Very desirable – familiarity with image processing, or communications and RF engineering would be very helpful in this role, since the majority of the data sources are either imagery or RF SIGINT recordings.

Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursed

up to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.

Buy Your Own Device (BYOD)

– Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.

This position is remote. The candidate is able to work remotely from any location. They may be asked to take up to 4 trips per calendar year to Lexington or to field test experiments if the program/project requires it.
