Job summary

Tactical Engineering & Analysis, Inc. is seeking a Software Developer to support the A50 NSWCDD Tomahawk program at Dahlgren. You will contribute across design, coding, reviews, and troubleshooting to help deliver high‑quality software.

Responsibilities include leading a team of junior developers, performing code reviews, and integrating DevSecOps practices with GitLab, Gradle, and SonarQube. A BS in a related STEM field is required and an active security posture is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a related STEM field required.
  • Proven experience with Java/JavaFX and C++.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab and DevSecOps practices.
  • Familiarity with Gradle, SonarQube and containerization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee full software development lifecycle from design to deployment.
  • Mentor junior developers and lead code reviews and peer reviews.
  • Engage in DevSecOps pipeline, run unit tests, analyze SonarQube results.
  • Plan tasks using Agile/Scrum ceremonies and manage tickets in JIRA.

Job description

The Software Developer is responsible for supporting development efforts supporting A50 NSWCDD for the Tomahawk program at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. They will play a supporting role in achieving the organization’s goals by operating in key development role with design, peer review, coding, and troubleshooting support.

Core Functions / Job Duties
  • Oversee the entire software development life‑cycle, including design, development, and implement applications using Java, JavaFX, and Guice, employing Gradle for building, automating compilation, testing, and deployment.
  • Use Git for local development and GitLab for configuration management, handling merge requests and maintaining code repositories.
  • Lead and mentor a team of junior developers in a collaborative, high‑performing environment.
  • Engage in DevSecOps pipeline to compile code, execute unit tests, verify code coverage, and analyze results from SonarQube scans.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate development tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.
  • Design and implement scalable and maintainable software architectures aligned with project requirements.
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for maximum performance.
  • Use SonarQube to perform static code analysis, identify potential vulnerabilities, and ensure code quality.
  • Analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for projects, including design specifications and user guides.
  • Participate in Agile methodologies and development processes such as serving as a member of a scrum team, conducting peer reviews, participating in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, backlog grooming, and using JIRA for ticket management and Confluence for documentation.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend tools or practices to enhance team productivity.
  • Work with VMWare Workstation to create and manage virtualized development environments on local machines.
  • Manage artifacts generated from GitLab using Artifactory and facilitate customer deliveries through Nexus.
Skills & Abilities
  • Programming Languages & Frameworks: Java, JavaFX, C++ (required); dependency injection with Guice (desired).
  • Version Control Systems and CI/CD: Git & GitLab (required); DevSecOps principles and practices (required).
  • Development and Build Tools: Gradle, SonarQube, VMWare Workstation, Artifactory, & Nexus (desired).
  • Linux/Unix experience (preferred).
  • Software architecture principles and design patterns.
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools.
  • Microservice architecture and containerization.
  • Automated testing frameworks.
  • System monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques.
Education & Certifications

Required: Bachelor of Science in a related STEM field.

Work Schedule

5/40. Ability to work non‑standard work hours and schedules in support of project requirements.

Pay Range

Level 4: $145,000.00 to $175,000.00 annually, DOE.

U.S. Citizenship Is Required.

Security Clearance

Candidates must have an active clearance or the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance and will be subject to a US security background investigation. An active security clearance is highly desirable.
