Job description

Your Job

The Software Solutions Group is the central nervous system of the Copper Solutions Business Unit (CSBU) within the Datacom & Specialty Solutions (DSS) division at Molex. SSG builds Python tools from the ground up for the design, manufacturing, and testing of high-speed electrical interconnects. Engineers on this team collaborate across the organization to deliver solutions that address challenges in every domain of the business. Our software designers own mature applications used in production facilities around the globe as well as stand‑alone tools that solve specific engineering problems.

This Software Design Engineer will join that career path. The first assignment is Atlas, a desktop platform used to run robot‑based 67GHz vector network analyzer (VNA) test processes and replace older site‑specific VNA tools. This tester solution will drive the next generation of 224G data interconnects and beyond.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain Python desktop applications used by electrical, mechanical, signal‑integrity, and manufacturing engineers.

  • Own features in Atlas: process flow, robot/VNA control, configuration, results display, and the operator‑facing workflow that runs on a test station that will be deployed to labs and production floors.

  • Integrate software with test hardware and automation - instruments, fixtures, and robots - so a configured process can run reliably in production.

  • Help migrate manufacturing sites from historical VNA platforms onto Atlas, including setup, debugging, and training users on the new workflow.

  • Work with product‑family and process configuration so new parts and test sequences can be added without rewriting the application.

  • Support global manufacturing centers: reproduce failures, ship fixes, and make the tools usable for people who are not software developers.

  • Participate in the full development cycle: requirements, design, implementation, code review, verification and validation, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

  • Eventually you will own other SSG tools besides Atlas. This role is not for a single‑product specialist.

  • Travel globally up to 15%

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • 3+ years designing and owning Python‑based applications and libraries (including desktop GUI applications).

  • 2+ years experience building and owning software that talks to physical hardware - instruments, microcontrollers, robots, sensors, or similar devices - not only software‑to‑software integrations.

  • Demonstrated software architecture and design judgment: usability, maintainability, extensibility, and performance, not only feature delivery.

  • Experience with Git and a defect‑tracking system such as Jira.

  • Working knowledge of software verification and validation techniques (automated testing, integration tests, and checking work against requirements).

What Will Put You Ahead

  • PyQt (or a similar Python GUI framework) for desktop applications.

  • Comfort in a lab or on a manufacturing floor: supporting operators, reproducing hardware‑in‑the‑loop failures, and traveling to plants as needed.

  • Experience with instrument or device I/O (VISA, SCPI, serial, or similar).

  • Ability to apply scientific Python to user‑facing applications: NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, and a conda‑based workflow.

  • Building reusable libraries, APIs, or configuration‑driven frameworks that other engineers and testers use.

  • Clear written and verbal communication with non‑software customers (manufacturing, test, and product engineers).

  • RF, VNA, or signal‑integrity background will put you ahead.
