Job summary

Apple is seeking a Software Build Engineer to join the Build & Integration team in San Diego. You will influence feature integration across software, hardware, localization, QA and project management to deliver Apple software to customers.

You will work with distributed computing, cloud services and virtualization to support macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and Xcode, while developing strong UNIX debugging and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• UNIX administration and strong software debugging skills.
• Knowledge of operating system, network, and compiler concepts.

• This role is expected to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule after an initial training period of 3 months.

The Software Build & Integration team at Apple is at the core of the Apple software development process. We are responsible for delivering the state-of-the-art operating systems and applications to Apple customers. The role empowers build engineers to influence new feature integration into Apple software, by collaborating with engineers from Software, Hardware, Localization, QA, and Project Management teams. Software Build Engineers will have the opportunity to utilize and implement solutions using distributed computing, cloud services, and virtualization technologies to deliver Apple software to customers. This involves engineering innovative solutions for Apple's production build system in support of macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, Xcode, and more!

Minimum Qualifications

• macOS, iOS, or UNIX development experience.
• UNIX administration and strong software debugging skills.
• Knowledge of operating system, network, and compiler concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with version control systems such as git or subversion
• Proficiency with advanced text editors (Sublime, vim, emacs)
• Authoring complex regular expressions
• Experience with Xcode and/or Makefiles
• Comfortable reading backtraces and stack traces

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $118,000 and $207,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
