Job summary

Catapult Solutions Group is seeking a Solutions Architect to design and evolve distributed software systems, with emphasis on event-driven microservices, cloud-native infrastructure, and secure, compliant mobile/backend integration.

You will lead architecture reviews, mentor engineering teams, define scalable architectures with Kafka, Docker/Kubernetes, AWS, and IaC, and ensure HIPAA and data privacy requirements are met in ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications

• BS/CS or related field required, 8+ years software engineering with leadership.
• Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming in large-scale systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka topics and schema management.
• Cloud-native design on AWS with Kubernetes and IaC tools.

Responsibilities

• Define scalable microservices architecture using domain-driven design and distributed systems principles.
• Lead architecture reviews, threat modeling, and code reviews.
• Design and implement event-driven architectures with Kafka and schema management.
• Oversee mobile/backend integration, offline sync, and BFF patterns.
• Standardize containerization (Docker) and Kubernetes deployments.
• Define cloud-native solutions on AWS (EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, Lambda).
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK/CloudFormation) to support GitOps.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance through encryption, access controls, and audit logging.

Job Description

We're looking for a Solutions Architect to design and evolve distributed software systems, with a focus on event-driven microservices, cloud-native infrastructure, and mobile/backend integration. You'll shape architectural direction, lead reviews, and mentor engineering teams while ensuring systems meet strict security and compliance standards, including HIPAA.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Partnering with engineering and product teams to define scalable microservices architecture using domain-driven design and distributed systems principles
• Designing and implementing event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka, including async messaging, event sourcing, sagas, and schema management
• Defining architecture for mobile and backend integration, including offline sync, conflict resolution, and BFF patterns
• Standardizing containerization (Docker) and deploying/managing applications on Kubernetes
• Designing and deploying cloud-native solutions on AWS (EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, API Gateway)
• Implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CDK/CloudFormation) to support GitOps
• Establishing best practices for security, resilience, observability, and operational excellence
• Ensuring architectures meet HIPAA and compliance requirements through encryption, access controls, and audit logging
• Prototyping and validating architectural solutions through spikes and POCs
• Leading architecture reviews, threat modeling, and code reviews
• Creating and maintaining architectural documentation (ADRs, C4 diagrams, data flow diagrams, runbooks)
• Supporting onboarding and enablement of engineering teams on architectural standards

Required Experience/Skills

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or related field
• 8+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years in a Solution Architect, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role
• Expertise with Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming in large-scale production environments
• Experience designing, building, and operating GraphQL APIs (schema design, authorization, caching, resolver/federation patterns)
• Production experience with event-driven architecture and Apache Kafka (topics, partitions, consumer groups, exactly-once processing, schema registry)
• Experience with PostgreSQL, NoSQL, and caching strategies (Redis)
• Ability to design offline-first or hybrid online/offline mobile architectures
• Knowledge of security architecture and resilience/observability patterns
• Experience with containerization, container orchestration, and cloud-native deployment on AWS
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps workflows

Nice-to-Haves

• Previous experience in highly regulated industries with strict data privacy requirements (healthcare, finance)

Education

Bachelor's Degree or above in Computer Science or related field required.
