Job description

Software Accounting - Senior Associate

We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join the Capital One Software Accounting team, within Central Accounting, as a Senior Associate focusing on accounting, financial analysis, process improvements, and automation. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills as well as possess strong written and verbal communication. The team member would be a self-starter responsible for managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment. This candidate should have a passion for learning, improvements and finding solutions in coordination with business partners.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, annual accounting processes and close responsibilities (journal entry recording, reconciliations, period over period balance change analyses, SEC deliverables, etc.) accurately and within necessary deadlines
  • Actively participate in design, implementation of accounting process automation, and be responsible for ongoing accounting activities
  • Focus on continual growth in a wide variety of automation tools
  • Set up new processes, test General Ledger system readiness and support the launch of new software products as they are developed and marketed
  • Ensure accounting documentation and practices are performed in accordance with accounting and governance policies and requirements
  • Provide support for audit, risk, and compliance groups when necessary
  • Participate in key corporate projects such as system upgrades, process enhancements, integrations, and ad hoc requests as they arise
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external partners on routine work-related matters, process or product changes, and to resolve issues, if any
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to management within necessary deadlines
  • Identify and implement process improvements to help drive efficiencies, enhance controls, and/or improve accuracy and quality of deliverables
  • Manage deliverables and processes on a daily basis to meet key deadlines

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in accounting, or finance, or audit, or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) eligible
  • 2+ years of Accounting experience in banking or finance industry (Monthly Close process, Account Reconciliations, Cash Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Revenue Recognition, or a combination)
  • 1+ years of experience in data analytics, data visualization (Tableau, Python, SQL, Google Sheets)
  • Experience working cross functionally with technology and operations teams
  • Experience in automating manual processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and self-prioritize diverse competing priorities

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $94,600 - $107,900 for Sr. Associate, Accounting
Richmond, VA: $86,000 - $98,200 for Sr. Associate, Accounting
Wilmington, DE: $86,000 - $98,200 for Sr. Associate, Accounting

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
