Job summary

The Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is building a pool of non-tenure track adjunct faculty to teach one or two on-campus courses for Spring 2027 and beyond. Courses may include large introductory classes, statistics, and topics on race, deviance, and gender.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field, or a master’s with commensurate professional experience; strong verbal and written communication skills are required, and experience mentoring

Qualifications

• Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience mentoring/advising undergraduates.
• FERPA certification required each semester.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate sociology course(s).
• Mentor/advising of undergraduates.
• Maintain FERPA certification each semester.
• Communicate with Department Chair within 24 hours about student concerns.
