Sociology Lecturer — Adjunct Onsite, Part-Time

Job summary

The Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking to build a pool of non-tenure track adjunct faculty who can teach one or two on-campus courses for the Spring 2027 semester and future terms.

Ideal candidates will have experience teaching sociology and related courses, with opportunities to teach large introductory courses, statistics, and topics in race and racism, deviance, and gender.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Sociology or related field, or a Master’s with commensurate professional experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and mentor/advised undergraduates.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate sociology course(s).
• Mentor/advise undergraduates.
• Maintain FERPA certification each semester.
• Contact the Department Chair within 24 hours with student concerns.
• Check UMass email every 24 business hours during the teaching term.
• Respond to UMass student email within 24 business hours.
