Aurora Public Schools is seeking dedicated Social Workers for direct service with Special Education students in Aurora, CO. This contract role focuses on counseling, IEP implementation, and collaboration with families and school teams.

You will conduct assessments, develop goals, and provide mental health services within school settings, including crisis response and safety planning. Applicants must have an MSW and licensure eligibility, with preferred school social work experience.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous school social work experience preferred.
  • CDE Special Provider License endorsement in School Social Work or ASWB licensure (LCSW)

Responsibilities

  • Provide group and individual counseling services based on IEP mental health goals.
  • Develop interventions at individual/group/system level to support educational progress.
  • Provide mental health services in general education classrooms and document services.
  • Communicate with outside service providers and collaborate with families and school staff.
  • Support MTSS and participate in required IEP and school meetings.
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments and assist with threat assessments.
  • Develop and implement safety plans and crisis response.
  • Complete social/emotional/behavior assessments and write evaluation reports.
  • Create IEP goals and Educational Impact Statements.
  • Coordinate with families, teachers, and administrators to address student needs.
  • Provide psychoeducation and build community resources for students and staff

Job description:
Direct Service with Special Education Students
  • Providing group and individual counseling services based on IEP mental health service goals
  • Developing individual, group or system level interventions which improve identified problems or concerns, including academic, social/emotional/behavioral/mental health needs as they relate to educational progress
  • Mental health in services in the general education classroom
  • Providing the written documentation of services i.e. progress reports and progress monitoring, service logs, IEP goals
  • Communicating and consulting with outside service providers (ex: caseworkers, therapists) when appropriate
  • Working collaboratively to address a variety of factors in a child's living situation that affect the child's adjustment in school (home, school, and community)
Crisis Management
  • Conducting suicide risk assessments
  • Assisting team members in threat assessments
  • Assisting team members in developing and implementing safety plans
  • Responding to crisis situations and providing related individual and classroom support
  • Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect to local authorities
IEP Assessments
  • Completing social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive skills assessments
  • Interpreting and writing evaluation reports based off the assessments conducted
  • Collecting data and developing Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans
  • Completing school observations
  • Conducting family, teacher and student biopsychosocial interviews
  • Conducting a review of records
  • Developing IEP goals
  • Creating Educational Impact Statements
Meetings
  • Participating in collaborative meetings for the following: IEP pre- planning, special education team, center-based classroom team, manifestation determination review
  • Participating on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support team
  • Consulting and collaborating with families, teachers, other building staff, building administration, outside agencies working with the family
  • Attending monthly behavioral health team meetings
  • Participating in professional development
  • Participating in professional learning community meetings
  • Attending building staff meetings

Education and Licensure

Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.

Previous school social work experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

CDE Special Provider License endorsement in School Social Work or passed the ASWB or has an

LCSW

Strategic Plan:

The social worker shall identify the development needs of students, shall maintain a productive learning environment, and shall work collaboratively to support the priorities of the Strategic Plan.

Condition of Employment:

As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the Client-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.
