Are you a passionate leader ready to champion child safety and family well-being? Alamance County Department of Social Services is looking for a dynamic Child Welfare Supervisor to guide one of our dedicated Assessment teams!

In this vital role, you'll be the driving force behind our frontline child welfare efforts—leading, coaching, and supporting your team to ensure every child has the chance to thrive.

  • Review cases and provide expert guidance and consultation

  • Deliver ongoing staff training and development

What It Takes to Lead – Your Role as a Child Welfare Supervisor: To thrive in this impactful position, you’ll bring deep expertise in social work principles and practices—and the ability to apply them in complex, real-world situations involving families, communities, and crisis intervention.

Your Day-to-Day Will Include
  • Leading with Purpose: Supervise and support a team of social workers—providing clear direction, meaningful feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Managing the Mission: Plan, organize, and direct day-to-day operations. Set work standards, review performance, and step in when tough decisions or challenges arise.
  • Coach, Guide & Support: From training new team members to managing performance concerns, you’ll be the go-to leader for development, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Handle the Hard Stuff: Tackle highly sensitive cases involving complex family dynamics, medical and emotional challenges, and severe mental health conditions—with compassion and skill.
  • Be the Calm in the Crisis: Emergencies are part of the job. You’ll need to stay cool under pressure and act quickly when child safety is at risk.
  • Always On When Needed: Serve on a rotating on-call and backup schedule—responding to urgent child welfare situations after hours when families need us most.
