Description:
Perform functions to counsel and assist students and families in improving social, emotional and behavioral needs and deficiencies. This is a long term substitute position from approximately 4/7/25 through 6/4/25.

Job Summary:

  • Crisis Intervention: Actively participate on and/or lead school crisis intervention team.
  • Assess the behavioral and emotional needs of students using formal and informal testing instruments. As part of this assessment, the social worker may need to conduct observations of students in classroom and non-classroom settings, review records, interview parents, consult with parents and school personnel, administer assessments, and interpret diagnostic findings.
  • Counsel students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition indicates need for assistance.
  • Lead group sessions to enhance social and emotional development of students and provide peer support.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff to determine causes of problems and effect solutions.
  • Meet regularly with teachers, teacher assistants, and other specialists to discuss individual student's modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual student's needs are met.
  • Actively participate on problem solving and intervention teams to facilitate early involvement and resolution to learning or behavioral problems.
  • Serve as liaison between student, home, school, and community resources referring families to available services.
  • Serve as consultant to building staff regarding student issues.
  • Complete required documentation such as IEP reports, goals or social development studies.
  • Participate or facilitate meetings or activities related to school or student needs as necessary.
  • Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Act as role model on appropriate behaviors ensuring social and emotional development is progressing normally.
  • Enforce and support school policies, philosophies, and objectives with students and parents.
  • Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
  • Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation, open houses, or conferences.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with an endorsement in Social Work.

Rate of Pay: $300/Day

Working Conditions: School setting in special education classroom.
