Job summary

Maryland Department of Health in Baltimore is seeking a clinician to provide case management and therapy to emotionally challenged adolescents in a residential treatment/special education setting. You will work with a team including nurses, teachers, social workers and mental health professionals to implement family-driven, youth-guided care.

The role requires extensive documentation such as treatment plans and progress notes, and a license in social work by the Maryland state board.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed as GSW, MSW or CSW by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.
  • Valid automobile operator's license required.
  • Education requirements per MSB licensing rules for Social Work professionals.

Responsibilities

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides clinical case management, direct individual, group and family therapy, and clinical advice and support to a caseload of approximately ten adolescents in a residential treatment center/special education school setting for emotionally disabled adolescents. This position requires someone who demonstrates specific expertise in understanding the symptoms and treatments for clients with diagnoses which are typically seen in emotionally disabled adolescents. This position requires someone who can work effectively with a treatment team made up of nursing/residential, educational and rehabilitation staff as well as social workers, psychologist and psychiatrists to provide treatment that is family driven & youth guided. The incumbent of this position must also be able to generate extensive documentation such as treatment plans, progress notes and reports required in a contemporary mental health context.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.
  • Experience: None.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

School Social Workers must possess three semester hours of special education coursework, and possess a certification from the Maryland Board of Education in School Social Work as per COMAR 13A.12.04.11

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience providing therapeutic and crisis intervention services to children and adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral disorders, including the use of evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), suicide risk assessment, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior supports.
  • Experience working in special education and interdisciplinary treatment planning, including IEP development, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  1. Candidates must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (on or by June 30, 2018), Master Social Worker(on or after July 1, 2018) or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit.
  2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
