The Veterans Health Administration (DOVA) is seeking a Social Work professional in North Chicago, IL to coordinate HUD-VASH referrals and housing support for Veterans. Travel may be required and telework is eligible as part of the program.

Responsibilities include reviewing housing agreements, conducting apartment visits for safety and compliance, and validating veteran eligibility for VA medical care and housing support. This position is full-time with standard daytime hours.

• Reviews agreements between Section 8, landlords, Public Housing Authorities and the VA in establishes appropriate referral sites for HUD-VASH placements
• Performs site visits of HUD-VASH apartments to ensure that veterans reside in safe environments in compliance with local housing codes
• Verifies the veteran’s status, eligibility for VA medical care, and eligibility of program participation
• Provides oversight of HUD-VASH case management. Case management is defined as the provision of services by VA clinical staff to homeless veterans and includes all activities to provide appropriate treatment and maintain veterans in HUD approved stable housing

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
