Base pay range

$60,000.00/yr - $70,000.00/yr

The Social Worker, Family Support Coordinator provides supportive services to families associated with Ronald McDonald House New York. The Social Worker, Family Support Coordinator works collaboratively with hospital partners, families, referral organizations, and supports administrative needs for the department at large. This position reports to the Social Work Manager, and liaisons with the Family Support Team within the Operations Department.

Pay range for this role is between $60-$70K per year. The schedule for this position is Sunday – Thursday 10 AM – 6 PM

Role/Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Work with Social Work manager to develop new infrastructure of SOPs particularly related to new family in-take procedures, orientations, and other continued care services aligned with the requirements from Ronald McDonald House Charities and our hospital partners
  • Identifying gaps in coordination of care for families and building internal and external relationships to leverage support for families
  • Facilitates family’s access to community resources that provide emotional, financial, and other essential resources during a medical crisis
  • Coordinate and monitor families individualized needs including family wellness checks, addressing requests or needs, and enforcing House policies and restrictions
  • Identify and analyze patterns within the family’s experience and assist in developing strategies and other creative ideas to address families’ concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Be an in-person presence in the House including public spaces (i.e. dining room, lobby, etc.) as well as support the intake process for new and returning families
  • Work one-on-one with families to provide in-depth and robust psychosocial and emotional check-ins (virtual, phone, in-person)
  • Act as an advocate for RMH-NY families and promote their ability to advocate for themselves
  • Providing consistent and accurate communications to the families (e.g., explaining policies, identifying internal resources, etc.)
  • Track and follow-up with families after they leave and provide research or support to connect families with resources and referrals in their local area
  • Manage shared email inbox and communication for Family Support team
  • Maintain organized records of activities related to the family’s engagement in Family Support services and document all services appropriately.
  • Research resources and educational items to adapt to changing opportunities to support families, connect with external social workers and further develop the resource library for families
  • Connect with internal staff, volunteers, partners and with external community-based organizations to support the continuation of care (e.g., collaborating on programs and events)
  • Work with Social Work interns as well as other RMH-NY staff ensuring consistent support and communication where needed
  • Support creation and development of marketing/communication materials for families, social workers or other stakeholders
  • Be attentive and observant of all parts of the facility and operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for all staff and guests, report violations or concerns in a timely fashion
  • Serve as a resource for staff, families, guests, volunteers, donors and other community members
  • Create and lead support groups for families

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Masters Social Sciences: Social Work Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working directly with children and families in crisis under licensed supervision
  • Extensive training on crisis intervention and crisis management with demonstrated experience utilizing critical thinking and analysis
  • Team-oriented focus while also demonstrating initiative and independence
  • Superb communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) with an ability to communicate in a
  • Timely and appropriate fashion while demonstrating empathy and active listening
  • Flexible work-style with ability to adjust priorities, multi-task, and manage time appropriately in a dynamic environment
  • Hospitable personality: welcoming, positive demeanor, resourceful, attentive, compassionate,
  • observant, intuitive and engaging
  • Excellent attention to detail, well-organized, and ability to collect and manage qualitative and quantitative data
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) required; experience with other software or case management platforms a plus
  • Knowledge of additional language(s) a plus
  • Experience working in healthcare field a plus

  • The office for this job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH-NY will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
  • The office for this job is located in the same facility where families have temporary residence. The building is open and must be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some holidays, weekends, evening hours may be necessary for this job.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events.
  • This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel

  • Some local/day travel will be necessary for the role.
  • Some domestic travel may be required with overnight stays.
