Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke is seeking a compassionate on-call Social Worker/Counselor to join our team. This PRN role provides psychosocial support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers, both by phone and in person, with a focus on end-of-life care.

You will work with after-hours care teams, document thoroughly, and help with admissions and level-of-care decisions. Requirements include a Master’s in Social Work and licensure preferred, plus 3+ years in social work or counseling,

What you will do

What we are looking for:

• Master’s degree in social work (from a school of social work accredited by the Council of Social Work Education); LCSW or licensure eligible preferred;
• At least three years of social work or counseling experience; hospice or end-of-life care preferred.
• Strong skills in crisis intervention, grief support, case management, and critical thinking.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and ability to work independently.
• Compassionate, emotionally mature, and mission-driven with a heart for end-of-life care.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: PRN (as-needed) position. Team members are required to pick up a minimum of 15-20 shifts per month.

Available shift options include:

Weekdays: 5:00 PM – 8:30 AM

Flexibility to work a mix of weekday and weekend shifts is expected.

Benefits:

• 401(k) with company match (100% match on the first 3%, 50% match on the next 1%) Eligible medical benefits, including dental and vision.

Starting Salary: $35/hour for time actively worked, including patient visits and other assigned clinical duties. When scheduled for on-call standby and waiting for a call, the on-call rate is $8/hour.

This is the starting salary for the position. Compensation may vary within the established salary range based on relevant experience, education, licensure, certifications, and other qualifications.
