Job Description

This opportunity involves working with a dynamic team of clinical professionals at our Cancer Center, providing assessment, counseling, referral, and psychosocial support to patients and their families dealing with emotional, financial, or coping challenges related to cancer and its treatment.

The Oncology Social Worker (OSW) facilitates support services and programs to optimize outcomes for cancer patients and their families, offering expertise on psychosocial needs and available resources. The OSW establishes trust with a diverse patient population to enhance their navigation of support systems.

Location

Holy Cross Health operates two hospitals and multiple healthcare centers near Washington DC and Baltimore, MD, supporting the mission of Trinity Health and the Holy Cross Hospital.

Reporting & Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Cancer Center Director
• Providing assessment (including distress screenings), counseling, referrals, and planning services to adult oncology patients and their families
• Managing oncology referrals and outpatient oncology patients, guiding patients to overcome care barriers

Key Responsibilities

• Enhancing quality of life for cancer patients and families through community-based services
• Conducting clinical assessments and determining appropriate care levels
• Handling crisis calls by assessing risk, ensuring safety, and coordinating care access

Qualifications

• Maryland LSWA, LGSW, LCSW, or LCSW-C licensure (or eligibility)
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Social Work
• One year of social work experience in an acute-care setting preferred
• Effective communication skills with all age groups, especially adults and geriatrics
