Job description

A new and exciting career awaits you! The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking Social Workers to be a part of our team at Clarks Summit State Hospital. We are looking for compassionate individuals who are resourceful, self-directed, and energetic to provide essential social services to our patients. As a Social Worker 1, you will provide social service casework and community support planning that promotes patient recovery and transition back into the community. You will use working knowledge of social service and hospital procedures, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, current mental health legislation, and additional resources to assist patients with day-to-day coping skills. This role requires the ability to observe patient behavior, assess clinical needs, and determine patient readiness for less restrictive treatment environments. You will also be required to travel between campus buildings and into the community to develop discharge plans. In addition, you will write treatment plans, document patient progress, and maintain family support contact.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. May change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This position requires you to possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
