Job summary

New Haven School District is seeking a School Social Worker to support ECSE and elementary students. This role involves assessments, writing reports, and delivering direct therapy in coordination with ECSE teams at Endeavour K-8 and Little Rockets Preschool.

The position requires an MSW with behavioral health foundations, MDE approval, strong communication, crisis management, and TIENET experience. Collaboration with families and staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • MSW with foundations of behavioral health.
  • MDE approval as School Social Worker.
  • CPR trained.
  • Experience in school social work and RTI.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive school social work evaluations and RTI strategies.
  • Deliver written evaluation reports including interpretation of findings and progress monitoring.
  • Provide direct therapy: individual, family or group.
  • Conduct crisis management and safety assessments.
  • Collaborate with staff/parents/guardians and outside agencies.

Job description

Reports to Special Education Director

Salary: Per NHEA Salary Schedule

Location: Endeavour K-8

NOTE: The social worker will support the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Program located at the Little Rockets Preschool building. Specific days and times for this collaboration will be determined by the ECSE team in coordination with the Special Services Supervisor.

The Special Services Supervisor reserves the right to assign caseloads. Assignments may include services at Endeavour K-8 and/or Little Rockets, based on student needs and program requirements. Start times will be determined and assigned to individuals in alignment with their assigned locations and responsibilities. In the event that Endeavour relocates grades K–4, caseload assignments will be adjusted accordingly to reflect changes in building configuration and student service needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Approval from the Michigan Department of Education as a School Social Worker
  • Master’s degree in Social Work including foundations of behavioral health.
  • Ability to pass an interview with district and individual building staff.
  • Able to work effectively with staff, students and the community.
  • Knowledge of district and state assessments. Knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAP), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), Progress Monitoring for Behavior.
  • Ability to complete social, developmental, medical histories for students.
  • Knowledgeable in behavioral data collection strategies.
  • Knowledgeable in theories of human development.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of various social/behavioral assessments and interpretations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Description:
  • Experience as a school social worker in a school setting or other related agency experience. Demonstrated skill in providing assessment of students for substance abuse, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideation, and similar issues.
  • Experience in TIENET document software programs.
  • Experience working with students exhibiting social, behavioral difficulties.
  • Knowledge of research-based social/behavioral approaches.
  • CPR Trained.
  • Provide comprehensive school social work evaluations and Response to Intervention strategies. Complete written reports for evaluations including interpretation of findings and progress monitoring using data collections.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate, in writing and verbally, with staff, other professionals, students and families.
  • Productively and safely handle chronic conflict and physical and emotionally aggressive behavior. Design, monitor, support, and evaluate behavior management plans using Positive Behavior Supports and make recommendations for classroom environment modifications.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries for students and families.
  • Provide direct therapeutic services such as individual, family or group therapy regarding specific issues.
  • Provide crisis management services, including assessing for safety. Work as a team member with instructional staff and parents/ guardians to refer eligible students to outside agencies and other community resources.
  • Provide in-service information and training to staff and parents on topics that support dealing with behavior.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director
