Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: Provides the necessary professional skills to assist students, parents, teachers and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Consults with school staff members and parents to identify at‑risk students; conducts surveys to assess school and/or community needs.
  • Develops short‑ and long‑term intervention strategies consistent with curriculum, student need, strengths, diversity and life experience to maximize educational opportunities and abilities.
  • Implements school‑wide programs and promotes parental responsibility for attendance improvement. Facilitates development of dropout prevention programs.
  • Assists families with the interpretation of school policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with support personnel within the school, district and community.
  • Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families.
  • Conducts home visits as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development, staying current with literature, new research findings and improved techniques. Attends appropriate professional, committee and team meetings as directed or assigned.
  • Adheres to relevant federal, state and local mandates, guidelines and requirements.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in social services.
  • Current SC Social Worker license.
EXPERIENCE
  • Working knowledge of social work theory and practice.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and provide intervention options.
  • Ability to collaborate with mental health professionals, student support staff, parents, students and community groups.
  • Ability to facilitate training and workshops for small groups.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Use strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job.
  • Sit, stand and walk for required periods of time.
  • Speak and hear.
  • Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and the ability to focus vision.
  • Communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
  • Reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.
WORK-PLACE EXPECTATIONS
  • Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Have regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow all district policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Paid on the Registered Nurses and Social Workers Salary Schedule
