Position Opening: Behavioral Health Specialist - Youth Services

Note: This position is open only to Colorado state residents. Multiple vacancies may be filled across various locations.

About the Division of Youth Services:

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides residential and non-residential services, including juvenile detention, commitment, and parole, for youth aged 10 to 21. It operates fifteen secure facilities and contracts with private providers across Colorado. DYS aims to build skills and competencies in youth to foster responsible citizenship. Position Summary:

The Behavioral Health Specialist functions as a mental health counselor, providing assessment, therapy, case management, and coordination services to detained and committed youth. The role involves working with youth experiencing trauma, mental health issues, and behavioral challenges, using evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide Treatment: Conduct individual, group, and family therapy; assess developmental needs; collaborate with medical and educational teams; document interventions; follow Sanctuary principles.
  2. Assessment and Treatment Planning: Review assessments, develop treatment goals, engage family, monitor mental health status, and coordinate care.
  3. Training and Consultation: Stay current with research, train staff, participate in supervision, and contribute to program development.
  4. Documentation and Communication: Record treatment notes in the EHR, ensure confidentiality, and communicate effectively with team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current valid Colorado or participating state license (LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LAC).
  • One year of relevant work experience with current licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a Colorado state employee.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Ability to obtain Colorado mental health licensure within 1 year.
  • Valid US driver’s license, background check, and other screenings.
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions.
  • Completion of DYS training programs and ongoing professional development.
