Job description

Social Video Manager, Communications
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a global network of policy research centers, is seeking a dynamic Social Video Manager with a passion for digital storytelling and creative content to join its communications team in Washington, DC. This is a full‑time position with an anticipated duration of 24 months.

The Social Video Manager will be responsible for increasing Carnegie's overall video‑based output on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube: training and coaching scholars in best practices; creating compelling short‑form video content; connecting Carnegie scholars to networks of creators; and producing a strategy blueprint that can be shared with similarly positioned organizations operating in the new media landscape. This role will be critical in directing strategy and creative ideation to reach audiences via short‑form video, shooting and editing video content, working directly with scholars to improve delivery and storytelling, and facilitating shared learnings across Carnegie and partner organizations.

Candidates should have 4 to 7+ years of experience in communications, with at least 2 years dedicated to social video production. Demonstrated experience working with content creators, journalists, academics, or digital storytellers with a strong grasp of how to build and engage audiences on fact‑based content is a big plus. Deep understanding of social video platforms—particularly TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts—how to tailor content for each platform, and understanding how to break through an information landscape transforming due to artificial intelligence is essential. The ideal candidate will have a track record of producing compelling video content, as well as an ability to set and adjust strategy based on trends. Strong editorial judgment and news instincts required. Experience managing a social media budget and training others who are new to engage with social media is a plus. The position reports to the Vice President for Communications and will work closely with the Democracy, Conflict, and Governance program, as well as the Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics program.

Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding work environment and generous benefits—including health insurance. The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience. Please note that this position will operate on a hybrid basis, requiring in‑office work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Those with experience outside of DC and the foreign policy space are welcome to apply.

Please apply via the Carnegie Endowment website by providing a copy of your resume/CV and a cover letter in your own words outlining your interest and experience with short‑form video. Please include 2-3 links to videos you have produced or edited in your application.

The position is included in the staff bargaining unit, Carnegie Endowment Workers Alliance (CEWA), affiliated with the IFPTE Local 70 union.
