Requirements
What You'll Do
- Develop and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons aligned to state standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Create a supportive, inclusive classroom that respects diverse perspectives and encourages active participation.
- Use primary and secondary sources, multimedia, and technology to enhance learning and encourage inquiry-based exploration.
- Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback to support growth.
- Integrate literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills development into Social Studies instruction.
- Facilitate discussions, debates, and collaborative projects that promote civic engagement, empathy, and informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align Social Studies curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior, and communicate effectively with families.
- Participate in professional development to grow your content knowledge, instructional skills, and cultural competency.
- Promote a positive school culture and take part in school-wide initiatives, committees, and events.
What You'll Need
- State certification or licensure in Social Studies education.
- Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in Social Studies or a related subject area.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, with a focus on Social Studies or History preferred.
- A passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Experience designing and delivering engaging Social Studies instruction, preferably in diverse classroom settings.
