Job summary

Oakmont Education's Dayton High School in Dayton, OH is seeking a dedicated Social Studies Teacher to engage urban students and deliver standards-aligned lessons.

Qualifications

  • State certification or licensure in Social Studies education.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in Social Studies or related subject.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, with a focus on Social Studies or History.
  • A passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Experience designing and delivering engaging Social Studies instruction in diverse classrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging Social Studies lessons aligned to state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive classroom respecting diverse perspectives and active participation.
  • Use primary and secondary sources, multimedia, and technology to enhance learning and inquiry-based exploration.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback.
  • Integrate literacy, critical thinking, and analytical skills into Social Studies instruction.
  • Facilitate discussions, debates, and collaborative projects promoting civic engagement and informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align Social Studies curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior, and communicate with families.
  • Participate in professional development to grow content knowledge and instructional skills.
  • Promote a positive school culture and participate in school-wide initiatives and events.
