Islamic League of America is seeking a Social Studies / History Teacher to instruct students in Middle and High School (Grades 6-12). The successful candidate will create lesson plans and deliver a curriculum that includes Islamic History, World History, and US History. This fully online position requires familiarity with virtual learning tools and a strong understanding of Islamic teachings and values. Preference will be given to those with teaching experience and relevant educational backgrounds.

Qualifications

Job description

Position Title: Social Studies / History Teacher

Responsible for instructing students in Middle and High School (Grades 6-12). Creates lesson plans, instructs students in Social Studies / History (Islamic History, World History, US History). Creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. Delivers required curriculum with an Islamic perspective while integrating the Islamic morals and values.

Primary responsibilities

• Effectively uses technology to enhance instruction. As this job is conducted entirely online, a successful candidate must be 100% comfortable with a virtual learning environment, as well as with using relevant distance learning tools. Training will be provided, however, the candidate must be sufficiently comfortable with online communication tools and software.
• Create instructional resources for use in the online classroom.
• Provide a positive example to students by supporting Al-Huda School’s mission of educating the next generation of Muslims who seek guidance through the Quran and practice of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
• Plan, prepare and deliver online instructional activities.
• Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
• Participate in ongoing training and Islamic learning and development sessions.
• Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
• Grade assignments and perform other administrative duties as needed.
• Create projects designed to enhance learning.
• Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
• Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
• Employ a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing students, including demonstrations, discussions, and class practice.
• Integrate Islamic teachings, morals, and values into lesson plans and instruction.
• Work with team leaders, department heads, and administration to ensure curriculum goals and standards are met.
• Tutor students on an individual basis, if needed.
• Communicate with parents to keep them abreast of their children’s progress.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.

Candidate Qualification:

• Must hold a college degree (evaluation of degrees from overseas must be submitted)
• Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in education (specifically Social Studies education)
• Must have sound knowledge of the history and contributions of Muslims in the world.
• Must be well-versed in Islamic history.
• Teacher certification is a plus.

Candidate Experience:

• Must have experience teaching Social Studies / History in a classroom setting.
• Teaching experience in full-time school settings is a plus.
