Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Social Services Coordinator in Des Moines, WA to provide client-centered social services, outreach, and program coordination. This full-time, non-exempt position requires handling multiple priorities in an office environment and occasional local travel.

Responsibilities include crisis response, case management, client records, referrals, and volunteer coordination.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years social service experience preferred; three years acceptable.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record. Will need to travel within the local area as needed but most work is in an office environment with frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines and competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Model an open, client-centered, compassionate, non-judgmental approach.
  • Set boundaries and adhere to eligibility and other program guidelines.
  • Meet and follow all Salvation Army policies & program requirements.
  • Balance and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Respond to crisis situations in a calm, positive manner.
  • Complete tasks, projects and daily requests in a timely manner.
  • Provide effective oral, written, and electronic communication.
  • Provide oversight of daily activities and day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Attend agency and staff meetings as determined by supervisor.
  • Banking / Billing - Make deposits daily as needed as well as process and code vouchers for payment.
  • Budget, track, and provide financial stewardship for all Salvation Army funds and donations.
  • Record, report and manage all in-kind donations.
  • Meet goals and outcomes set by the program and supervisor.
  • Interview and assess clients' needs while keeping good records of services provided (Social Services).
  • Provide referrals to both internal and external resources as necessary.
  • Answer and respond to client assistance phone calls, e-mails, and faxes within 24-48 hours and respond to drop-in visits as needed.
  • Maintain client records, accurate data entry, and produce reports as required by supervisor, agency policy and funding sources.
  • Increase and leverage volunteerism in South King County (Volunteer Management).
  • Provide effective leadership and training to volunteers.
  • Promote agency programs through community meetings, events, and presentations to community organizations, or through other public relations activities (Community Collaboration & Outreach).
  • Coordinate and facilitate a monthly Service Committee meeting.
  • Coordinate, recruit, and grow the center programs which include but not limited to Christmas Distribution, Kettles, Summer Camp and Back to School programs (Programs).
  • Emergency Preparedness – facilitate and coordinate planning center preparedness and training.
  • Perform other duties associated with the general responsibilities of the center and/or as assigned by supervisor

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to operate a telephone, desktop, or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee's normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months' service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months' service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
