Candidates must be a certified AOD counselor before beginning employment and hold an active certification throughout employment from one of the following accredited organizations: California Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE); California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP); California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP).
This Social Service Worker I, AOD certified recruitment is to establish an eligible list for all Behavioral Health Programs within Health and Human Services requiring the certificate.

There is currently one full-time position available (1 FTE – 80 hours biweekly) in the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery Services with the Odyssey Program. Utilizing the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model, the Odyssey program provides intensive psychiatric case management services that are accessible 24/7 to adults 18 and older.
Under the direction of the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Unit Supervisor, the Social Service Worker I (SSWI) will be the first point of contact for many seeking services. It’s imperative that this role maintains a client-focused mentality and consistently builds professional relationships through engagement and rapport. Responsibilities include continuous follow-up with clients to support stability, connecting clients to treatment resources, assessing, intake, assistance, linkages, discussing referral options, education, and technical assistance. The role also involves facilitating recovery-focused low barrier groups/harm reduction conversations and managing a referral caseload with accurate documentation.
This position requires starting the workday in the office, then meeting clients in the community and facilitating groups. There may be opportunities for a rotating day off based on program needs.
The ideal candidate has experience in generalist social work practices and customer service, excellent communication skills, and experience working with adults/older adults, disabled individuals with severe mental health issues, and those experiencing homelessness. They should be skilled in interviewing, assessing, educating, and referring clients, with knowledge of Marin County’s programs and resources. Experience facilitating groups, recovery-based counseling, and working with co-occurring disorders is highly desirable. The candidate must work independently and as part of a team, document clinical information accurately, and provide a welcoming environment even in high-stress situations.
Strong needs assessment skills, the ability to de-escalate high-stress situations, and proficiency with client data management are essential. Knowledge of electronic health records and Medi-Cal documentation is a plus.
