We have immediate vacancies in the Department of Human Services in Halawa to Kalihi and Downtown, and with the Department of Health in Kaneohe to Kualoa.

Salary: $3,606 to $4,563 per month (SR-11, Step C to I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties Summary

Performs extensive field work and out-reach functions; serves as liaison between professional staff and clients, and/or potential clients; performs preliminary screening for continued eligibility for social service programs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Legal Authorization To Work Requirement
    The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Basic Education/Experience
    Graduation from high school or equivalent, or experience which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions, a high degree of verbal skill and the ability to make basic mathematical computations, including averaging.
  • Specialized Experience
    Three years of experience providing supportive services to professional workers in a social service or a health related agency e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, observing and reporting of client interactions, emotional, physical or mental symptoms and problems; explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming. Experience must have involved engaging with clients.
  • Applicants for Social Service Assistant IV must possess at least one year of experience comparable to the Social Service Aid III in State government.
  • Social Service Aid III
    Independently provides all supportive services for a unit or team; participates in team activities; does limited field work including checking with clients, encouraging them to use available resources, following up on cases on a periodic basis, relaying information, problems and observations to the professional staff.
  • Substitutions Allowed
    Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
  • Driver's License
    A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For these positions, a valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
